What engines and transmissions are offered?
Two engines are available in the 2026 Expedition. Both are versions of the same 3.5L EcoBoost V6, paired with a 10-speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission across the entire lineup.
3.5L EcoBoost® V6 with Auto Stop-Start Technology — 400 horsepower. Standard on Active, Platinum (without Ultimate or Stealth Performance Package), and King Ranch. Paired with the 10-speed automatic.
3.5L EcoBoost® V6 High-Output — 440 horsepower / 510 lb-ft of torque. Standard on Tremor. Required when ordering the Platinum Ultimate Package or Stealth Performance Package.
Both engines run on regular fuel and pair with the same 10-speed SelectShift Automatic. The Tremor and any HO-equipped Platinum add Engine Sound Enhancer with Active Noise Cancellation, plus a High Flow Exhaust System.
Drivetrain options vary by trim. Active is offered as 4x2 or 4x4. Tremor is 4x4 only. Platinum and King Ranch are 4x4 only. The 4x4 system uses Intelligent 4WD with Ford’s Terrain Management System, including Selectable Drive Modes: Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery, and Off-Road. The Tremor adds Rock Crawl mode for a total of seven drive modes.
The all-new 2026 Expedition Tremor
The 2026 Tremor is the most significant new addition to the Expedition lineup in years. It’s the Expedition’s first off-road-focused trim, and it brings real off-road hardware that didn’t exist on any previous Expedition.

For the full deep-dive on the 2026 Expedition Tremor — including the 440-hp High-Output engine, locking differential, modified suspension, 33" all-terrain tires, Trail Control technology, how it compares to other Ford Tremor models, and who it’s built for — see our 2026 Ford Expedition Tremor deep dive.
Expedition vs. Expedition MAX
The Expedition is offered in two body lengths. The MAX adds up to 11.8 inches of extra cargo length and up to 37.4 cubic feet of additional cargo room behind the third row compared to the standard wheelbase. For families that regularly carry passengers and luggage simultaneously on long trips, the MAX is meaningfully more practical.
Trim availability by length:
- Active: available in standard length and MAX, 4x2 or 4x4
- Tremor: standard length only, 4x4 only
- Platinum: available in standard length and MAX, 4x4 only
- King Ranch: available in standard length and MAX, 4x4 only
If you want the off-road capability of the Tremor, you’re committing to standard length. If you regularly carry seven or eight people with luggage on family trips, the MAX is the better fit. The MAX 4x2 Active configuration also adds an extra 300 pounds of towing capacity (6,300 lbs total) compared to the standard 4x2 Active.
For the full breakdown of standard vs. MAX — cargo space, third-row use, garage fit, daily-driving differences, and which length fits which buyer — see our 2026 Ford Expedition vs. Expedition MAX guide.
Technology, BlueCruise, and Co-Pilot360
Every 2026 Expedition runs the Ford Digital Experience on a 24" panoramic display paired with a 13.2" center stack display — standard across the entire lineup including the fleet-only XL. The system includes Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Store built in, plus wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
Ford Connectivity Package includes 1 year free from warranty start date. Adds 5G connectivity for Ford Digital Experience, unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot, audio and video streaming, productivity features (video conferencing, web browser), voice assistant, and entertainment. After Year 1, you can pay month-to-month or buy the 7-year one-time purchase package (option code 65B).
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is standard on every retail trim — even Active. Includes 360-Degree Camera with Lane Change Preview, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, Predictive Speed Assist, and Stop & Go, Auto High Beams, Blind Spot Assist, BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Lane-Keeping System (Alert, Assist, Driver Alert, Road Edge Protection), Pre-Collision Assist with AEB (Pedestrian Protection, Forward Collision Warning, Dynamic Brake Support), Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, Post-Collision Braking, Rear View Camera with Camera Wash, and Reverse Brake Assist.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 adds Intersection Assist on top of the Assist 2.0 features. Standard on Tremor, included on Platinum retail orders, and on Active Touring 202A when equipped with BlueCruise. Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column with Memory is included with Active 2.0.
BlueCruise pricing structure:
- BlueCruise Equipped (90-Day Trial) — included on Tremor and Platinum retail orders. Hands-free highway driving on prequalified Blue Zone highways. After the 90-day trial, a subscription is required to continue use.
- BlueCruise Equipped (1-Year + 90-Day Plan, option 55B) — standard on King Ranch. Available as a factory option on other trims at time of vehicle order.
- BlueCruise Equipped (One-Time Purchase, option 55C) — available as a factory option. Activates BlueCruise for a minimum of 7 years on the vehicle (non-transferable to another VIN). No additional subscription required for the duration.
Important: if you don’t select BlueCruise hardware at time of vehicle order — either as the included 90-day trial, the 1-year + 90-day plan, or the one-time purchase — the vehicle will never be capable of BlueCruise functionality. This is a hardware decision made at the factory, not something that can be added later. If BlueCruise matters to you, make sure it’s on your build sheet.
Audio: Active runs an AM/FM stereo with six speakers and SiriusXM 360L (3-month trial). Tremor and Platinum upgrade to the B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen with 10 speakers including subwoofer. King Ranch tops the lineup with the B&O Unleashed Sound System with 22 speakers including subwoofer.
For the complete 2026 Expedition technology breakdown — including Ford Digital Experience, Co-Pilot360 features, BlueCruise pricing options, B&O audio tiers, and what you need to order at factory time — see our 2026 Ford Expedition technology and BlueCruise guide.
Towing and family hauling capability
Available max towing of up to 9,600 lbs when properly equipped puts the 2026 Expedition in a different league than crossover SUVs. For most central Minnesota uses — family campers, fishing boats, pontoons, side-by-side trailers, horse trailers — that’s plenty of headroom.
Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package is standard on Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch, and optional on Active 4x4. Includes:
- 26mm engine radiator (28mm on Tremor)
- Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
- Two-Speed Automatic 4WD with Neutral Towing Capability (4x4 only)
- 3.73 Non-Limited Slip Rear Axle
Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver is standard on every retail trim. Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist are both included with Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 — meaningful upgrades for backing trailers and hooking up at remote launches when you’re solo.
4x2 MAX Active specifically gets an extra 300 lbs of towing capacity (6,300 lbs total) over the standard wheelbase Active 4x2 thanks to the longer wheelbase improving stability with a trailer.
For the complete towing and family hauling breakdown — including Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, what the Expedition can pull by trailer type, and real central Minnesota towing scenarios — see our 2026 Ford Expedition towing and family hauling guide.
How does the 2026 Expedition handle Minnesota winters?
Available Intelligent 4WD with Slippery drive mode standard on every 4x4 retail trim, available heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats on Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch, available heated steering wheel, scheduled remote start (with the 10-speed automatic), and an available engine block heater (option 41H, $100-ish factory option) make the 2026 Expedition well-suited to central Minnesota winter conditions.
Standard equipment for cold-weather operation includes Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, rear auxiliary climate controls, cabin particulate air filter, heated power glass mirrors, and Hill Descent Control on 4x4 trims. Auto Stop-Start can be temporarily disabled when the vehicle senses cold conditions to keep the cabin warm.
For Minnesota buyers we recommend the engine block heater on virtually every order — the cost is modest, the install happens at the factory, and the benefit on -10°F mornings is significant. Pair it with the 10-speed automatic and Mid-Package or higher trims for scheduled remote start, and your worst January mornings turn into something tolerable.
What colors and interiors are available for the 2026 Expedition?

2026 Expedition vs. competitors
Buyers cross-shopping the 2026 Expedition typically compare it against the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and Toyota Sequoia. Each does some things differently, and which one fits depends on what you actually want from a full-size SUV.
A few quick differentiators where the 2026 Expedition stands out:
- The Tremor model — full-size off-road SUVs with this kind of factory hardware (locking differential, modified suspension, fuel tank skid plates, 33" A/T tires) are rare. Tahoe Z71 doesn’t match it.
- 24" panoramic display + 13.2" center stack standard — the most digital screen real estate in the segment, and standard from Active up.
- BlueCruise hands-free highway driving — available across the lineup. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise is competitive but generally requires higher trim levels.
- Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist standard with Co-Pilot360 2.0 — included on every retail trim, not gated to higher trims.
- Body-on-frame full-size SUV with available 4x4 and Terrain Management System — the platform fundamentals are right where they need to be for towing, hauling, and real capability.
For the complete head-to-head against the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, and Toyota Sequoia — including engines, towing, technology, off-road capability, and which one fits which buyer — see our 2026 Ford Expedition vs. Tahoe, Suburban & Sequoia comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I buy a 2026 Ford Expedition at Jay Malone Ford?
2026 Expeditions are arriving on our Hutchinson lot now. Inventory shifts week to week, so the fastest way to know what’s available is to check our online inventory or call us at (320) 587-4748. If we don’t have your exact configuration in stock, we’ll either pull it from another dealer at no extra charge or place a factory order through Ford.
What’s the new Tremor model?
The Tremor is the Expedition’s first off-road-focused trim, all-new for 2026. It includes the 440-hp 3.5L EcoBoost V6 High-Output engine, modified higher-ride suspension with premium passive shocks, modified Raptor-derived skid plates with fuel tank underbody protection, 33" all-terrain tires, electronic-locking rear differential, Trail Control with Trail One Pedal Drive and Trail Turn Assist, and Rock Crawl mode added to the Terrain Management System. It’s standard length only, 4x4 only, and represents the most off-road-capable Expedition Ford has ever built.
What’s the difference between the standard 3.5L and the High-Output engine?
The standard 3.5L EcoBoost V6 makes 400 horsepower. The High-Output version makes 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The HO is standard on Tremor and required when ordering the Platinum Ultimate Package or Stealth Performance Package. Both run on regular fuel and pair with the same 10-speed automatic. The HO also adds Engine Sound Enhancer with Active Noise Cancellation and a High Flow Exhaust System.
Do I need to add BlueCruise at order time?
Yes. BlueCruise is a hardware feature that has to be selected at the factory — it cannot be added to a vehicle after it leaves the assembly line. You have three options at order time: the included 90-Day Trial (standard on Tremor and Platinum retail orders), the 1-Year + 90-Day Plan (option 55B, standard on King Ranch), or the One-Time Purchase (option 55C, gives you 7 years of BlueCruise tied to the VIN). If you don’t select any BlueCruise option at order time, your Expedition will never be capable of BlueCruise — so make sure to discuss it with us before finalizing your build.
How much can the 2026 Expedition tow?
Available max towing of up to 9,600 lbs when properly equipped. The exact rating depends on the trim, drivetrain, axle ratio, and packages. Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package is standard on Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch, and optional on Active 4x4. Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist are included with Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0. For the specific tow rating on the configuration you’re considering, give us a call and we’ll pull the exact figure.
Does the Tremor come in MAX length?
No. The Tremor is offered in standard length only. MAX (extended length) is available on Active, Platinum, and King Ranch.
What’s the Stealth Performance Package?
A Platinum-only package that adds the 440-hp 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output engine, 24" x 9.5" Ebony Painted aluminum wheels with P285/40R24 all-season tires, Black Onyx perforated leather-trimmed seats, Black belt molding, Carbon Black front bumper/fascia, Black-bezel headlamps with Ebony trim, signature grille lighting, high-flow exhaust, Engine Sound Enhancer with Active Noise Cancellation, and Continuous Controlled Damping Suspension. It includes the Stealth Appearance Package and the Driver’s Package automatically. It’s the closest a Platinum gets to a performance configuration.
