The 2026 Ford Expedition® lineup at Jay Malone Ford spans four retail trims — Active, the all-new Tremor®, Platinum®, and King Ranch® — each built around a different kind of buyer. Picking the right one comes down to how you actually use a full-size SUV: family hauling versus off-road weekends versus highway luxury versus showing up at the deer camp in something that turns heads. This guide walks through every retail trim, what each one includes as standard, what packages and options matter most, and which one fits which buyer. (Ford also produces an XL trim for fleet buyers as the Special Service Vehicle, but it’s not available retail.)

What’s standard on every 2026 Expedition
Before walking through trim-by-trim differences, here’s what every 2026 retail Expedition includes regardless of trim:
- 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine (400 hp standard, 440 hp High-Output on Tremor and HO-equipped Platinum)
- 10-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission
- Auto Stop-Start Technology
- 24" Panoramic Instrument Panel Display + 13.2" Center Stack Display
- Ford Digital Experience with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Store built in
- Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™
- Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control with Rear Auxiliary Climate Controls
- Ford Co-Pilot360® Assist 2.0 (Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, BLIS®, Pre-Collision Assist with AEB, 360-Degree Camera, Lane-Keeping System, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist)
- Ford Security Package (1-year included with activation) — new for 2026
- Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver
- Ford Connectivity Package (1-year included)
- Eight-passenger seating (seven with second-row Captain’s Chairs)
- Three-row seating with PowerFold® third row
- Power Upper Liftgate / Power Lower Tailgate (Ford Split Gate)
- LED Reflector Headlamps with Signature Lighting
- SiriusXM® Radio with 360L (3-month trial)
In other words, even the Active 200A is genuinely well-equipped — the screens, driver assistance, and core powertrain are the same hardware you get on the King Ranch. What the higher trims add is more comfort, more luxury, more capability, and (with Tremor) more off-road hardware.
Active Select (200A) — the family entry trim
Active Select is the entry retail trim and the most affordable way into the 2026 Expedition lineup. Don’t mistake “entry” for “basic” — the Active 200A includes the full 24" panoramic display, Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, the Ford Digital Experience, and 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain options. It’s a real Expedition, not a stripped-out version of one.
Standard on Active 200A:
- 3.5L EcoBoost V6 (400 hp) with Auto Stop-Start
- 10-speed SelectShift automatic
- 4x2 standard / 4x4 available
- 18" Dark Alloy-painted aluminum wheels
- P275/65R18 All-Season tires (4x2) or P265/70R18 All-Terrain tires (4x4)
- Eight-passenger seating with cloth Captain’s Chairs in row 1, 40/20/40 manual fold bench in row 2, 60/40 PowerFold with Power Recline in row 3
- 10-way power driver seat with Power Tilt, Lumbar, and Recline
- 8-way power passenger seat with Power Lumbar and Recline
- Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror
- Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control with rear climate
- Ford Split Gate with Power Upper Liftgate / Power Lower Tailgate
- Active badging on tailgate
Worth knowing about Active 200A:
- Heated front seats are NOT standard — you’d need to step up to Active 202A or higher
- Heated steering wheel is NOT available on 200A
- Pro Power Onboard™ (the in-vehicle 400W power outlet system) is not standard on 200A — that’s a 202A and up feature
- Available with the optional 20" x 8.5" Carbonized Gray Bright Machined aluminum wheels (option 64C)
- Engine Block Heater (option 41H) is available — we recommend this for almost every Minnesota buyer
Best fit: the budget-conscious Minnesota family that wants a real Expedition without paying for leather and a 22-speaker sound system. If you’re cross-shopping a used three-row crossover with a new entry-level full-size SUV, this is your trim. Pair it with 4x4 if you’ll see snow or gravel.
Active Touring (202A) — the volume seller
The Active Touring 202A is the trim most central Minnesota families end up in. It adds the comfort and convenience features that make an Expedition feel like an Expedition without crossing into Platinum-level pricing. We sell more 202As than any other Expedition configuration.

- ActiveX™ seating material in first and second rows (more durable and easier to clean than cloth)
- Heated front seats (driver and passenger)

- Memory Driver Seat

- Flex Powered Console

- Second-Row 40/20/40 Power Fold Bench Seat with ActiveX (option 21F)
- Third-Row Flexible Seating 40/20/40 (option 21Y)

- Engine Block Heater (option 41H)
- 20" x 8.5" Carbonized Gray Bright Machined wheels (option 64C)
Best fit: the family that wants every comfort feature without going Platinum. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, second-row Captain’s Chairs that make third-row access easier, and the option to add BlueCruise for hands-free highway driving. This is the volume Expedition for a reason — it’s the right balance of equipment and value.
Tremor (501A) — the all-new off-road Expedition
All-new for 2026 and the Expedition’s first off-road trim, the Tremor is a meaningfully different vehicle than the rest of the lineup. It’s 4x4 only, standard length only (no MAX), and built around the 440-hp 3.5L EcoBoost V6 High-Output engine and modified suspension that didn’t exist on previous Expeditions.
Tremor 501A includes everything in Active 200A, plus:
- 3.5L EcoBoost V6 High-Output engine: 440 horsepower, 510 lb-ft of torque

- 33" All-Terrain Tires (P275/70R18E A/T BSW)
- 18" x 8.5" Dark Carbonized Gray Painted Aluminum Wheels with Electric Spice pocket

- Floor Liners, front and second rows (without carpet mats)
- Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column with Memory
- Universal Garage Door Opener
- Driver-side auto-dimming sideview mirror
- Digital Device Holder (new for 2026)
Best fit: the buyer who actually uses off-road capability — the deer hunter, the ice fisherman, the boater who launches at icy ramps, the family that takes the SUV to remote campsites. The Tremor isn’t a styling exercise — the locking differential, modified suspension, fuel tank skid plates, and 33" A/T tires are real hardware. If you don’t actually go off-pavement, you’re paying for capability you won’t use. If you do, this is the only Expedition built for it.
Our complete Tremor deep-dive — including how it compares to other Tremor models in Ford’s lineup — is coming soon and will be linked here when published.

King Ranch (400A) — Southwest luxury
King Ranch is the Southwest-themed luxury flagship. It’s 4x4 only, available standard length or MAX, and brings a different aesthetic than the rest of the lineup — the Mesa Antique two-tone leather, the Sinister Bronze grille and wheel finishes, and the King Ranch logo touches throughout.
King Ranch 400A includes everything in Platinum 600A, plus:
- Active Air Dam — Front
- King Ranch badging on front doors and tailgate in Satin Aluminum and Caribou
- "EXPEDITION" lettering in Satin Chrome on hood
- Beltline Molding — Polished Stainless Steel
- Engine Sound Enhancer
- Sinister Bronze Painted Grille bars
- Carbon Black Molded-in-Color front bumper/fascia
- Black Onyx Painted Power Deployable Running Boards

- Premium Del Rio Leather All Rows (front captain’s chairs heated and ventilated)
- Second-row power-folding Captain’s Chairs with armrests and Tip-and-Slide, perforated inserts
- Third-row Flexible Seating 40/20/40 with Power Recline and Remote Power-Folding Head Restraints (7-passenger seating)

Worth knowing about King Ranch:

- Available in standard length or MAX
- Black Painted Roof (option 90A) is new for 2026 and available on King Ranch
- The 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio is genuinely a step up from the 10-speaker B&O on Platinum — if you care about audio, this matters
- Mesa Del Rio leather is a unique aesthetic in the SUV market — it’s very different from a typical “black leather” luxury vehicle
- Engine Block Heater (option 41H) available
Best fit: the buyer who wants something distinctive. King Ranch interiors are unlike anything else in the segment — the Mesa Antique two-tone leather, the brand-specific touches, the Sinister Bronze styling. Pair it with the King Ranch’s 22-speaker audio and the standard 1-Year + 90-Day BlueCruise plan, and you’ve got a long-haul highway SUV that turns heads at the lake. If “something different from a Tahoe High Country or Sequoia Capstone” matters to you, King Ranch delivers.
Which 2026 Expedition fits which buyer?
Some specific buyer profiles based on conversations on the Hutchinson sales floor:
The young family on a budget. Active Select 200A 4x4 with Engine Block Heater. Real Expedition, real 4x4, full Co-Pilot360, the screens, and a price point that doesn’t require Platinum money. Skip the leather and audio for now — you can step up at trade-in time.
The volume family hauler. Active Touring 202A 4x4. Heated front seats, heated steering wheel, Captain’s Chairs, Pro Power Onboard, Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow. Pair with BlueCruise (option 55B or 55C) if highway miles matter. This is the Expedition most central MN families end up in.
The seven-people-plus-luggage family. Any trim in MAX length except Tremor. The MAX adds substantial cargo space behind the third row — the difference between “the kids fit but the luggage doesn’t” and “everything fits comfortably.” Especially worth it if you take road trips.
The deer hunter / ice fisherman. Tremor, period. 33" A/T tires, electronic locking diff, fuel tank skid plate, modified suspension, Rock Crawl mode, 440-hp HO engine. The only Expedition built for actually using off-road capability. Standard length only.
The buyer who tows regularly. Platinum or King Ranch with Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow. The Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist features genuinely make life easier when you’re launching a boat alone or hooking up to a trailer in a tight space.
The performance-and-style buyer. Platinum with Stealth Performance Package. 440-hp HO engine, 24" Ebony wheels, Black exterior treatment, high-flow exhaust. The closest a Platinum gets to a performance configuration.
The maximum-luxury buyer. Platinum Ultimate Package — massage seats with Multi-contour Active Motion, Polished Stainless Steel beltline, Lit Grille Bar, BlueCruise (1-year + 90-day plan), 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio, Driver’s Package included. Or King Ranch for the Southwest luxury aesthetic. Both are flagship-level configurations — just different visual languages.
The buyer cross-shopping a Tahoe High Country, Suburban High Country, or Sequoia Capstone. King Ranch is the most direct counter — same luxury target, distinctive Southwest aesthetic, 22-speaker B&O Unleashed, standard 1-year + 90-day BlueCruise. Our complete competitor comparison is coming soon and will be linked here when published.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Active 200A and Active 202A?
202A adds ActiveX seating material, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, Memory Driver Seat, second-row Captain’s Chairs, Pro Power Onboard 400W, Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow (with 4x4), 4-Door Intelligent Access, power-folding heated mirrors with memory, rain-sensitive wipers, and 360-Degree Zone Lighting. It’s a meaningful step up — the comfort features alone make 202A the right answer for most central Minnesota families.
Which trims have the 440-hp High-Output engine?
The Tremor (standard) and Platinum with either the Stealth Performance Package or Platinum Ultimate Package. The standard 3.5L EcoBoost V6 (400 hp) is on Active, Platinum without those packages, and King Ranch.
Why is Tremor only standard length?
The Tremor’s modified suspension, 33" tires, and off-road tuning are designed for the standard wheelbase. MAX is available on Active, Platinum, and King Ranch. If you want the off-road capability of the Tremor, you’re committing to standard length. If you want the MAX’s extra cargo space, you’re committing to a different trim.
What’s the difference between Stealth Performance Package and Platinum Ultimate Package?
Both include the 440-hp HO engine, 24" wheels, Driver’s Package (22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio), Engine Sound Enhancer, and high-flow exhaust. Stealth Performance is the murdered-out aesthetic — Black wheels, Black trim, Black Onyx interior, Carbon Black bumper. Platinum Ultimate is luxury-focused — Tarnished Dark Metallic wheels (not Black), Polished Stainless Steel beltline, Carbon Black bumper with Lit Grille Bar, multi-contour massage seats, BlueCruise 1-Year + 90-Day Plan included. They’re different aesthetic and equipment paths to the same powertrain. They cannot be combined.
Is the King Ranch worth it over a fully-loaded Platinum?
It depends on what you want. King Ranch is the only way to get the Mesa Antique two-tone Premium Del Rio leather and the Sinister Bronze grille and wheels — that aesthetic is exclusive to King Ranch. King Ranch also gets the 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio standard (Platinum requires Driver’s Package or higher) and the 1-Year + 90-Day BlueCruise plan standard (Platinum gets only the 90-Day Trial unless you order Platinum Ultimate). On the other hand, Platinum with Platinum Ultimate Package gets you the 440-hp HO engine and multi-contour massage seats — neither of which King Ranch offers. Decide based on which features matter more to you.
Which 4x4 system do I get on which trim?
All 4x4 retail trims use Intelligent 4WD with Two-Speed Transfer Case (Torque on Demand) and the Terrain Management System with Selectable Drive Modes: Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery, Off-Road. The Tremor adds Rock Crawl mode for a total of seven drive modes. Active is the only retail trim available as 4x2 — Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch are 4x4 only.
Should I add the engine block heater?
For Minnesota use, yes — we recommend it to almost every buyer. The factory option (41H) is inexpensive, the install happens at the factory, and the benefit on -10°F or colder mornings is significant. Plug into a standard 110V outlet for a few hours overnight or use a timer.
