2027 Ford Transit commercial van concept — what's new for 2027 at Jay Malone Ford

The 2027 Ford Transit brings meaningful updates focused on commercial security, lighting, charging hardware, and connectivity. Most of the changes are aimed squarely at fleet, trades, and commercial operators — the kind of updates that matter when you actually have to maintain, secure, and operate a van for years instead of just shop for one once.

Here’s what changed, what got added, what got deleted, and an honest framework for deciding whether to buy a 2026 Transit now or wait for a 2027.

What is the biggest change for the 2027 Ford Transit?

The 2027 Transit is not a full redesign — it’s a focused commercial-buyer update that strengthens the Transit’s position for fleet, trades, and security-conscious operators. The biggest changes are:

  • Ford Security Package (1-year included) standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT, with a new one-time seven-year purchase option (68D) available
  • Perimeter Alarm standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT
  • Daytime Running Lamps with on/off cluster controllability standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT
  • Iconic Silver Metallic as the new paint color (replacing Ingot Silver Metallic)
  • NACS Fast Charging Adapter now a standalone option on E-Transit rather than bundled with the Mobile Power Cord
  • Connected Navigation Hardware now available as an option

None of these are flashy retail-driven changes. They’re practical updates that real fleet operators have been asking for — standard alarm and security on commercial vans where theft and vandalism are constant concerns, more flexible long-term security plan options, more flexibility on E-Transit charging hardware spec, and more standard lighting control for drivers operating in mixed conditions.

What changed about Ford Security Package on the 2027 Transit?

For 2027, the Ford Security Package picks up two important changes:

One-year Ford Security Package is now standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT. The base coverage includes Theft Alerts, Start Inhibit, Stolen Vehicle Services, and Deductible Reimbursement — built around a connected modem and Ford’s security service network. On 2026, this required adding the package as a paid option; for 2027, it’s built in as standard equipment.

A new one-time seven-year purchase option (68D) is now available as a standalone add-on. This is meaningful for commercial fleet buyers: instead of renewing security service subscriptions year after year, you can purchase seven years of coverage in a single transaction at the time of vehicle order. For multi-vehicle fleet operators, that’s simpler accounting and a fixed-cost line item rather than an ongoing annual expense.

The seven-year option is a one-time purchase, non-transferable to another VIN, and requires modem authorization at the time of purchase. No additional subscription is required to maintain connectivity for the seven-year service window.

What changed about Transit lighting for 2027?

Two lighting changes for 2027:

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) with On/Off Cluster Controllability are now standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT. DRLs were available before, but the new cluster-controllable feature lets drivers turn them off from the instrument cluster — useful for operations where DRL is inappropriate (some specific commercial workflows, fleet photography, or specific upfit contexts).

Exterior Lighting (option 943) is now optional on Medium Roof and High Roof Cargo Van and Passenger Van configurations. This is a real plus for late-shift delivery, construction yards, and parking-lot loading where work happens after dark.

One deletion to note: Wiper Activated Headlamps (91B) has been removed from the 2027 lineup. If you used this option on a 2026 Transit, the equivalent functionality requires a different equipment combination on 2027.

What new color is available and what was discontinued?

New for 2027:

  • Iconic Silver Metallic (JS) — the replacement silver in the Transit lineup

Discontinued for 2027:

  • Ingot Silver Metallic (UX)

If you have a 2026 Transit fleet in Ingot Silver and want to maintain consistent fleet color across new additions, this is worth knowing. Iconic Silver Metallic is a different shade — talk to our team and we’ll compare swatches before you order.

What is new for the 2027 E-Transit charging hardware?

For 2027, the NACS Fast Charging Adapter (option 61B) is now a standalone option for E-Transit. On 2026, the NACS adapter was bundled with the Mobile Power Cord (option 98A). For 2027, you can order them separately based on your operation’s actual needs.

This matters for fleet buyers because most commercial E-Transit operations don’t rely on the Mobile Power Cord for daily charging — they have depot or home-base Level 2 charging installed at the operation’s base. The NACS adapter is more useful for fast-charging at public networks during longer routes or in transitional operations. Decoupling the two makes it easier to spec the hardware that actually fits your charging strategy.

Ford has not yet published 2027 E-Transit range, charging time, or payload figures. We’ll update our content as those numbers are confirmed.

What is new for Transit connectivity and navigation?

Connected Navigation Hardware (option 19A) is now available as an option on the 2027 Transit. This is hardware that enables connected navigation services within the Ford ecosystem, including over-the-air map updates and live traffic data. For fleet operators using SYNC and Ford’s connected vehicle services, this is the hardware that powers it.

What was deleted from the 2027 Transit?

Several items were removed from the lineup for 2027:

  • Headlamp Courtesy Delay — deleted
  • Tire Inflator and Sealant Kit — deleted from Cargo Van
  • Wiper Activated Headlamps (91B) — deleted
  • Side Parking Sensors — deleted
  • Ingot Silver Metallic (UX) paint color — deleted (replaced by Iconic Silver Metallic)

For most fleet operators, these deletions are unlikely to be deal-breakers — the equipment was either optional, infrequently used, or replaced by superior alternatives. But if you specifically rely on any of these features in your current Transit operations, talk to our team and we’ll work through the 2027 spec implications.

Should I buy a 2026 Transit now or wait for a 2027?

For commercial buyers, this question is fundamentally different than for retail buyers. You’re not choosing a vehicle, you’re choosing how soon you can put it to work. Here’s an honest framework:

Wait for a 2027 if:

  • Your operation is security-sensitive (urban delivery, tool-loaded trades vans, etc.) and the standard Ford Security Package and Perimeter Alarm matter for theft prevention
  • You’re a fleet operator who wants to lock in the seven-year Security Package on multiple vehicles for simplified long-term budgeting
  • You’re ordering E-Transits and want the more flexible NACS Fast Charging Adapter spec for your depot charging setup
  • You need the new Iconic Silver Metallic for a specific fleet color scheme
  • Your current vehicles still have operational life and the timing works to defer

Buy a 2026 Transit now if:

  • You need the vehicle on the road in the next few months — Ford has not announced a 2027 on-sale date and 2027 allocations will likely take time to flow
  • You specifically want one of the discontinued features (Headlamp Courtesy Delay, Wiper Activated Headlamps, Side Parking Sensors, or Ingot Silver Metallic paint)
  • Your operation is contract-driven and downtime on existing vehicles is creating real revenue loss
  • 2026 incentives or fleet programs are particularly strong for your operation right now
  • You’re upfit-dependent and the body builder needs lead time on the base vehicle

For most commercial fleet operators, the right answer comes down to whether you can wait for the security and lighting upgrades, or whether your operation needs vans on the road right now. We’re happy to walk through the math with you either way. Talk to us about your current vehicle situation, your trade values, and your operational timeline — we’ll help you make the right call.

What paint color was discontinued from the 2026 Transit?

Ingot Silver Metallic (UX) is discontinued for 2027 and replaced by the new Iconic Silver Metallic (JS).

When will the 2027 Ford Transit be available?
