What is new for the 2027 Ford Transit?

- Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) with On/Off Cluster Controllability — now standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT
- Iconic Silver Metallic (JS) — new paint color that replaces the discontinued Ingot Silver Metallic
- Ford Security Package (1-year included) — now standard on Cargo Van and Passenger Van XL/XLT, with a new one-time seven-year purchase option (68D) available

- Exterior Lighting (943) — now optional on Medium Roof and High Roof configurations
Several items were deleted for 2027 as well: Headlamp Courtesy Delay, Tire Inflator and Sealant Kit (from Cargo Van), Wiper Activated Headlamps (91B), Side Parking Sensors, and Ingot Silver Metallic paint.

What configurations are available on the 2027 Transit?
The 2027 Transit is offered in five body configurations, all built on the T-350 series chassis. Choose from:
- Cargo Van — the volume commercial workhorse for trades, delivery, and small business
- Passenger Van XL — commercial-grade passenger transportation with value-focused equipment
- Passenger Van XLT — passenger transportation with added comfort and convenience for school, church, athletic, and hospitality use
- Cutaway — shipped as a base vehicle ready for body builders (service body, dump body, refrigerated box, RV, ambulance)
- Chassis Cab — another upfit-ready base vehicle for service body, dump body, and commercial body applications
Within each configuration, you choose your roof height (3 options: Low, Medium, High — though not every height is available on every configuration), wheelbase (2 options: Long and Extended), and overall length (3 options). Combined with the choice of gas or electric powertrain, and RWD or AWD where available, this gives the 2027 Transit one of the deepest configuration matrices of any commercial vehicle on the market.
For an official reference of Transit body codes by roof, wheelbase, and length combination, Ford maintains a Transit body decoder on their FordPro site — useful if you’re working with an upfitter who needs specific dimensional specs.
2027 Transit Cargo Van
The 2027 Transit Cargo Van is the highest-volume Transit configuration and the one most commercial buyers default to. Available in Low Roof, Medium Roof, and High Roof; Long 148-inch or Extended 148-inch wheelbase on E-Transit; multiple wheelbase and length combinations on gas configurations.
For 2027, the Cargo Van picks up several upgrades that matter for commercial operations:
- Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) with on/off cluster controllability — standard
- Ford Security Package (1-year included) — standard
- Perimeter Alarm — standard
- One-time seven-year Ford Security Package (option 68D) — available for buyers who want a single-purchase long-term security plan instead of recurring subscription
- Connected Navigation Hardware (option 19A) — available
- Exterior Lighting (option 943) — available on Medium Roof and High Roof
If you’re running a trades operation — plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, flooring, framing — the Cargo Van paired with the right shelving and tool organization upfit is the most common Transit spec we see in central Minnesota. For a detailed breakdown of how to spec a Transit Cargo Van for trades and contractor operations, see our 2027 Ford Transit for Trades and Contractors guide.
2027 Transit Passenger Van XL and XLT
The Transit Passenger Van seats up to 15 people depending on roof height and length configuration. Two trim levels for 2027:
- Passenger Van XL — the value-focused passenger trim with commercial-grade equipment and durable interior surfaces. Built around payload capacity and durability for high-mileage shuttle, fleet, and group transportation use.
- Passenger Van XLT — adds comfort and convenience features, more refined interior trim, and equipment buyers expect for operations where the passenger experience matters more.
Both XL and XLT pick up the same 2027 upgrades as Cargo Van: standard DRL with on/off cluster controllability, standard Ford Security Package (1-year included), standard Perimeter Alarm, and the new one-time seven-year Ford Security Package option.
The Passenger Van is the go-to Transit configuration for school districts, daycares, technical colleges, athletic team transportation, church shuttle programs, senior living facilities, hotels, and faith-based schools across central Minnesota. For a detailed breakdown of how to spec a Transit Passenger Van for schools, churches, and shuttle operations, see our 2027 Ford Transit for Schools and Churches guide.
2027 Transit Cutaway and Chassis Cab
The 2027 Transit Cutaway and Chassis Cab are upfit-ready base vehicles designed to be the foundation for a custom body installation by a body builder. They’re shipped without a cargo box, with the cab and chassis ready for an aftermarket body to be mounted.
Common upfits we coordinate include:
- Service bodies — for utility, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical contractor operations
- Dump bodies — for landscape, hauling, light construction, municipal use
- Refrigerated boxes — for food service, grocery distribution, pharmaceutical delivery
- Mobility conversions — wheelchair-accessible passenger vans for transit services, hospitals, senior living, and nonprofit operations
- Ambulance and emergency upfits — for EMS, fire department, and mobile medical applications
- RV and shuttle conversions — for tourism, hospitality, and personal RV use
Cutaway and Chassis Cab are available in 156-inch Long or 178-inch Extended wheelbase configurations. We work with regional upfitters on body installations and can coordinate the entire process — base vehicle order, upfit specification, body builder coordination, and final delivery — from start to finish.

2027 E-Transit (electric)
The 2027 E-Transit is the full-electric version of the Ford Transit lineup. For 2027, E-Transit is offered on the T-350 series in several Cargo Van, Cutaway, and Chassis Cab configurations:
- Cargo Van — Low Roof, Medium Roof, or High Roof, 148-inch Long wheelbase, RWD/SRW (Single Rear Wheel)
- Cargo Van Extended — High Roof, 148-inch Extended wheelbase, RWD/SRW
- Cutaway — Low Roof, 156-inch Long or 178-inch Extended wheelbase, RWD/SRW
- Chassis Cab — Low Roof, 156-inch Long or 178-inch Extended wheelbase, RWD/SRW
E-Transit is RWD only and uses Single Rear Wheel (SRW) configuration. AWD is not available on E-Transit; for AWD, the gas Transit is the right choice.
For 2027, the NACS Fast Charging Adapter (option 61B) is now available as a standalone option rather than being bundled with the Mobile Power Cord, giving fleet buyers more flexibility on charging hardware spec. Connected Navigation Hardware (option 19A) is also newly available.
E-Transit makes the strongest case for fixed-route operations with depot charging — last-mile delivery, shuttle services on predictable routes, school district programs with overnight charging at the bus garage, municipal services with central-location charging. For variable-route trades operations or rural commercial customers without home-base charging infrastructure, the gas Transit is usually a better fit. Ford has not yet published 2027 E-Transit range, charging time, or payload figures — we’ll update this page when those numbers are confirmed.

Family-owned. Hutchinson-based. Built around how you work.
Central Minnesota runs on work vans. Trades crews on the Highway 7 corridor, plumbers and HVAC techs covering McLeod and Meeker counties, school districts running shuttle and special transportation programs, churches making service calls and senior pickups, municipalities and fleets supporting local manufacturing and agriculture. Jay Malone Ford has been the place to spec a commercial Ford in central Minnesota since 2005. We know how operations around here actually use these vehicles, and we know what it takes to get one ordered right the first time.
I’m Jordan Malone-Forst, and I grew up in this dealership. My dad Jay started Jay Malone Motors in 2005, my brother Jake and I work alongside him now, and we’ve handled more Transit orders than we can count. The 2027 isn’t any different — same family, same hands-on commercial team, same commitment to getting your spec right.
If you’re thinking about a 2027 Transit for your operation, let’s talk. A phone call, an email, or a walk-in works — whichever is easiest for you.
