2027 Ford F-150 Engine Options: All Six Engines and Which Trims Get Them

The 2027 Ford F-150 offers six engines: the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, the 5.0L V8, the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost, the 3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6, plus the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost High Output and the 5.2L supercharged V8 on Raptor. All six pair with an electronic ten-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0L V6 EcoBoost is the standard engine on XL, STX, XLT, and now Lariat, and the 5.0L V8 is available again on King Ranch and Platinum.

I’m Jordan Malone-Forst, Assistant General Manager at Jay Malone Ford in Hutchinson. Picking the engine is the single decision that shapes everything else about how your F-150 can be built — and on the 2027, there are a few pairing rules that will genuinely surprise people who have ordered trucks before. This post walks through all six engines, where each one is offered, and the ordering restrictions that matter before you commit to a build.

Everything below reflects confirmed 2027 availability and configuration information from Ford. Output ratings are still pending and we will add them here once Ford publishes them.

3.0L V6 EcoBoost

This is the volume engine for 2027 and the standard powerplant across most of the lineup — XL, STX, XLT, and, new for this year, Lariat. If you walk onto a lot and look at a 2027 F-150, odds are good this is what is under the hood.

Two availability restrictions to know. It is not offered on the 122-inch wheelbase Regular Cab, and it is not offered on 157-inch wheelbase 4x4 builds. If you want the long box on a crew cab with four-wheel drive, you are looking at a different engine.

The bigger restriction is a towing one, and it gets its own section below because it catches people out.

5.0L V8

The naturally aspirated V8, and the engine a lot of our customers still ask for by name. For 2027 it is available across XL, XLT, Lariat, Tremor, and — newly — King Ranch and Platinum. It is the standard engine on the 122-inch wheelbase Regular Cab.

One quirk worth knowing: on STX, the 5.0L V8 is only available as part of the F-150 Lobo Package, which is a SuperCrew 4x4 build with its own wheel, exhaust, and suspension content. You cannot simply add the V8 to a standard STX.

If you order the 5.0L with the engine block heater — and in central Minnesota you should — the front license plate bracket is required alongside it.

3.5L V6 EcoBoost

The heavy-lifting EcoBoost. It is the standard engine on the 157-inch wheelbase, on King Ranch, on Platinum, on Tremor, and on the top Lariat equipment group, and it is available further down the range on XL, XLT, and the lower Lariat groups. It is not offered on the 122-inch wheelbase, and it is not part of the STX lineup.

This is also the engine that unlocks Pro Power Onboard 2.0 kW on King Ranch and Platinum, which is a meaningful step up from the 400W outlets if you are running tools off the truck.

3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6

The hybrid, available on STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum, and standard on the Platinum Plus equipment group. It pairs with a hybrid ten-speed automatic rather than the standard ten-speed.

Three things about the PowerBoost that change how you spec the rest of the truck:

• It includes Pro Power Onboard 2.4 kW, with a 7.2 kW system available. That 7.2 kW setup is the one that genuinely replaces a jobsite generator.
• It removes the 36-gallon extended-range fuel tank. If you are running long days between Hutchinson, Willmar, and the metro, factor that in.
• On XLT, ordering the PowerBoost requires the Mobile Office Package. Not a downside — it brings bucket seats and wireless charging — but it is a required add, not an optional one.

3.5L V6 EcoBoost High Output and 5.2L Supercharged V8

Both are Raptor-exclusive. The High Output 3.5L is the standard Raptor engine across the equipment groups, and the 5.2L supercharged V8 is what makes a Raptor R a Raptor R. Neither is available anywhere else in the lineup, and neither can be ordered on a non-Raptor truck.

Which engine comes on which trim

Availability varies by equipment group, cab, wheelbase, and drivetrain. Confirm any specific combination with us before ordering.

The ordering rules that actually matter

This is the part I would read twice if you tow anything.

The Tow/Haul Package is not offered with the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost. That is the single most consequential pairing rule on the 2027 F-150. Tow/Haul is what brings the integrated trailer brake controller and the electronic-locking rear axle, and it is the gateway to the Max Tow axle upgrade. If you want that package, you are ordering a 5.0L V8 or a 3.5L. The 3.0L is a capable engine — but it is not the engine for a serious trailer build.

On 3.0L trucks, the integrated trailer brake controller is a standalone option. It does not disappear entirely. It just has to be added on its own rather than arriving inside Tow/Haul. If you pull a small trailer occasionally and do not need the full package, this is how you get brakes.

The Max Tow axle is not available with 22-inch wheels. It is also unavailable on XL, on the base XLT group, and with 17-inch or 18-inch painted aluminum wheels. This is the one that stings, because it is easy to spec a beautiful King Ranch or Platinum on 22s and quietly give up your maximum tow rating in the process. Decide which one you care about before you pick wheels.

Your engine determines your FX4 axle ratio. With the 3.0L, the FX4 Off-Road Package brings a 3.55 electronic-locking rear axle. With the 5.0L V8 or 3.5L EcoBoost, it brings a 3.31. Different ratios are available as upgrades depending on engine. FX4 is 4x4 only.

Pro Power Onboard scales with your engine. The 400W cab-and-bed outlets are widely available. The 2.0 kW system requires the 3.5L EcoBoost. The 2.4 kW comes with the PowerBoost hybrid, and the 7.2 kW requires it. If jobsite power is the reason you are buying the truck, the engine decision is already made.

What about the 2.7L EcoBoost?

The 2.7L V6 EcoBoost is not offered on the 2027 F-150. I want to say that plainly rather than let anyone find out at the desk.

How I would pick, for central Minnesota

Practical guidance based on what people around Hutchinson, Litchfield, Glencoe, and Winsted actually do with their trucks:

• Gooseneck, livestock trailer, or anything heavy and regular — 3.5L V6 EcoBoost or 5.0L V8, with the Tow/Haul Package. Watch the wheel choice so you keep Max Tow on the table.
• Daily driver that occasionally pulls a boat or a small utility trailer — 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, and add the standalone trailer brake controller.
• Running tools at a jobsite — 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid with the 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard. Accept the smaller fuel tank as the trade.
• Gravel township roads, field access, spring mud — 3.5L V6 EcoBoost with FX4, or step to Tremor if you are in it seriously.
• You just want a V8 — that is a completely legitimate reason, and for 2027 the 5.0L reaches further up the lineup than it did.

What engines are available on the 2027 Ford F-150?

How much horsepower does the 2027 Ford F-150 have?

Which 2027 F-150 engine is best for towing?

Start with an engine that can take the Tow/Haul Package, which means the 5.0L V8 or a 3.5L. Tow/Haul brings the integrated trailer brake controller and an electronic-locking rear axle, and opens up the Max Tow axle upgrade.
