Pro Power Onboard — the in-vehicle generator
Pro Power Onboard is Ford’s in-vehicle generator system. Outlets in the truck deliver power directly — no separate generator, no extension cords running back to a portable unit, no gas can to refill at the jobsite.
Pro Power Onboard configurations on the 2026 Super Duty:
- 400W standard on XLT and higher — one outlet in the dash, one outlet in the rear console
- 2 kW (2,000W) available with the Platinum Plus Package on Platinum trim — the maximum in-vehicle power output in the heavy-duty pickup segment
What you can run from 400W:
- Laptop computers, phone chargers, hand-held device chargers
- Smaller corded power tools — drills, impact drivers, smaller saws
- Work lights (LED, halogen, or smaller incandescent)
- Air compressors for tire inflation
- Small kitchen appliances at a tailgate — blenders, coffee makers, slow cookers
- Smaller livestock equipment — fan, smaller fence chargers, water pumps
What you can run from 2 kW:
- Most corded power tools — circular saws, miter saws, table saws (smaller models), reciprocating saws
- Air compressors for nail guns and pneumatic tools
- Smaller welders (110V)
- Multiple work lights simultaneously
- Refrigerators and freezers at extended tailgate setups or remote campsites
- Larger livestock equipment — livestock fans, larger water pumps, electric fencing controllers
- Smaller home backup needs during power outages — refrigerator, lights, charging devices
Practical Minnesota use cases:
- Contractor jobsite work: 2 kW handles circular saw, miter saw, work lights, and air compressor simultaneously. No portable generator required.
- Hunting or remote-property work: 2 kW powers a chest freezer for meat storage, multiple lights, and tools without a generator.
- Tailgating and outdoor events: 400W or 2 kW handles TV, smaller kitchen appliances, fans, lighting.
- Home backup during power outages: 2 kW can keep a refrigerator running, lights on, and devices charged through a multi-day outage. Plug the truck into your house through a proper transfer setup (consult an electrician for proper installation).
- Livestock operations: Run fans for cattle in summer heat, water pumps for remote tanks, fencing controllers, or feeding equipment.
For buyers who use Pro Power Onboard daily, the 2 kW configuration (Platinum Plus Package on Platinum trim) is the right answer — same fundamental capability as a 2,000-watt portable generator without the gas, oil, maintenance, or noise of a separate generator.
Upfitter switches for aftermarket equipment
Upfitter switches are factory-installed auxiliary switches that provide clean, factory-rated wiring for aftermarket equipment — snowplows, dump bodies, work lights, winches, beacon lights, sirens, air compressors, and anything else you’d normally hardwire to a truck’s electrical system.
Why upfitter switches matter:
- Factory-rated wiring — runs are sized for the rated amperage with proper fuses and relays from the factory. No splicing into vehicle electronics or running undersized aftermarket wire.
- Clean dash installation — switches are integrated into the dashboard, not aftermarket toggle switches mounted under or beside it.
- Warranty protection — using factory upfitter switches keeps you out of warranty issues that can arise from hacking into vehicle wiring.
- Resale value — a clean factory upfit installation looks better to next buyers than a forest of aftermarket toggle switches.
Upfitter switch availability on 2026 Super Duty:
- Available as factory option across the lineup
- Six (6) upfitter switches included with the Platinum Plus Package on Platinum trim (the maximum standard configuration)
- Different switch counts available depending on trim and option configuration
Typical aftermarket equipment wired through upfitter switches:
- Snowplows (Western, Boss, Fisher, Meyer, etc.)
- Dump bodies and hoists
- Service bodies (Reading, Knapheide, etc.) with multiple electrical accessories
- Work lights and emergency beacons
- Sirens and warning systems
- Air compressors mounted in the bed or service body
- Winches (front-mounted or bed-mounted)
- Lift gates
- Auxiliary fuel transfer pumps
- Cargo area lighting
For contractors and operators with multiple aftermarket accessories, the six upfitter switches in Platinum Plus Package is the right answer. For lighter upfit needs (single snowplow, single piece of aftermarket equipment), the standard option package configuration is plenty.
PTO (Power Take-Off) provisions
PTO is a mechanical drive that takes power directly from the engine or transmission to power external equipment — augers, dump bodies, hydraulic systems, agricultural implements, service body equipment, or anything else that needs continuous mechanical power. The 2026 Super Duty offers PTO provisions on diesel models with specific capability ratings.
PTO specs:
- Diesel PTO torque: up to 300 lb-ft
- Gas PTO torque: up to 250 lb-ft
- 10-bolt PTO mounting pattern — more secure mounting than smaller bolt patterns, better for larger PTO devices
- Compatible with industry-standard PTO accessories
Typical PTO applications:
- Augers — post hole digging, fence post installation, drilling for irrigation lines
- Hydraulic systems — dump bodies, lift gates, service body equipment, log splitters mounted in the bed
- Snow blowers — larger commercial snow blowers that exceed what an electric or gas-powered unit can handle
- Generators — PTO-driven generators for jobsite power exceeding what Pro Power Onboard delivers
- Mowers and brush cutters — larger commercial units
- Pumps — water pumps for irrigation, fire suppression equipment
- Hot saws and other timber equipment
- Concrete pumps and other commercial equipment
PTO is the right answer when:
- You need continuous mechanical power (vs Pro Power Onboard’s electrical output)
- The equipment requires more power than 2 kW electrical can deliver
- You’re running PTO-driven implements designed for direct mechanical drive
- You need the duty cycle and torque characteristics of mechanical PTO vs electrical
Practical Minnesota PTO use cases:
- Ag operations: augers for fence post installation, PTO-driven generators for remote livestock equipment, hydraulic dump body for grain or feed handling
- Snow removal: commercial snow blowers, hydraulic plow lift systems on larger plows
- Excavation and contracting: hydraulic dump bodies, augers for soil sampling or post setting
- Service work: hydraulic-driven service body equipment, PTO-driven compressors for tire shop work
Snowplow Prep Package
The Super Duty is the only Ford pickup that can be ordered from the factory with snowplow-ready configuration. The Snowplow Prep Package (option 473) is the right answer for any buyer planning to install a snowplow — whether commercial plowing operation, township road work, or just clearing a long driveway in central Minnesota winter.
Snowplow Prep Package details:
- Available on all 4x4 Super Duty pickups
- Requires 4x4 drivetrain
- Not available with: Tremor Off-Road Package (17Y), Heavy-Service Front Suspension Package (67H), or Heavy-Service Package for Pickup Box Delete (63R)
What’s included:
- Computer-selected snowplow springs — specifically rated for snowplow application, not standard truck springs
- 190 Amp Alternator (option 67D) with 6.8L gas or 7.3L gas engines — provides electrical headroom for plow lighting and accessories
- 410 Amp Dual Alternator (67B) with 6.7L diesel engines — substantially more electrical capacity for commercial plowing operations running multiple electrical accessories
- Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heater (41A) on 6.7L diesel models — matters for plow operators who need cab heat available immediately on cold mornings (diesels take longer than gas engines to produce heat from engine coolant alone)
Available 250 Amp Alternator (option 67E) with 6.8L gas or 7.3L gas engines for additional electrical headroom — useful if you’re running multiple electrical accessories simultaneously.
What Snowplow Prep does NOT include:
- The snowplow itself — you purchase and install the plow separately
- Front-mount plow brackets or mounting hardware — these come with the plow
- Plow controllers or wiring harnesses — supplied by plow manufacturer
Why Snowplow Prep is worth ordering even for personal-use plowing:
- Spring rates matter — standard truck front springs aren’t rated for the constant front-end load of a plow. Driving with a plow on standard springs causes premature wear and reduced ride quality.
- Electrical capacity matters — plow lighting, plow controllers, and plow hydraulic pumps all draw power. Standard alternators can be marginal; the Snowplow Prep alternator upgrade gives you headroom.
- Heat matters in MN winters — the Rapid-Heat Supplemental Cab Heater on diesel models makes a real difference on cold mornings.
- Warranty integrity — using factory snowplow prep keeps the truck within factory-rated specifications, important if anything goes wrong.
For Hutchinson-area plow operators: we recommend XLT or Lariat 4x4 with Snowplow Prep Package. The 6.8L gas is the simplest answer for personal-use plowing (reliable cold starts, no DEF management). The 6.7L diesel is right for commercial plowing operations running heavy mileage. Tremor Off-Road Package and Snowplow Prep Package are NOT compatible — if you need both off-road capability and plow capability, the FX4 Off-Road Package is the alternative that works with Snowplow Prep.
Payload, GVWR, and work-truck capacity
For work-truck buyers, payload capacity matters as much as — sometimes more than — towing capacity. You’re carrying tools, materials, equipment, and sometimes upfit weight (service body, dump body, plow) in addition to operators and gear.
Maximum payload by Super Duty model:
- F-250: approximately 4,200 lbs maximum
- F-350 SRW: approximately 4,800 lbs maximum
- F-350 DRW: up to 8,000 lbs maximum (gas Heavy-Duty Payload Package on Regular Cab 4x2 DRW)
- F-450: high commercial-grade payload ratings
Capacity upgrade packages worth knowing:
- F-250 Greater than 10K GVWR Package (option 68U) — optional on XL and XLT, standard on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. Increases F-250 GVWR for buyers who need more total vehicle weight rating. Standard with Tremor Off-Road Package.
- F-250 High Capacity Axle Upgrade Package (option 535) — optional on XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum F-250. Requires diesel engine. Includes 11.6" axle upgrade, 68U package, and increases GVWR up to 11,400 lbs and GCW on diesel.
- Heavy-Duty Payload Package — available on F-350. Increases payload capacity through stronger springs, axles, and frame components. Required to hit the 8,000-lb max payload on F-350 DRW.
- Heavy-Service Front Suspension Package (option 67H) — for buyers with heavy front-axle loads (large service bodies, heavy front-mounted equipment).
Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch (available option) measures actual payload in real time and displays it on the cluster. For commercial buyers who load to capacity regularly, this is the difference between guessing where you are against capacity and knowing precisely. Particularly useful for fleet operations, ag haulers, and anyone who needs documentation of load weights.
Plan ahead for upfit weight: if you’re installing a service body, dump body, or other significant upfit, the upfit weight subtracts from your available payload. A 600-lb service body on an F-250 leaves you ~3,600 lbs of remaining payload before passengers and cargo. Account for upfit weight when spec’ing the truck.
Camper Package for slide-in campers
For buyers running slide-in truck campers (the kind that load into the pickup bed and overhang the cab), the factory Camper Package provides the right suspension setup and capability.
Camper Package (option 471):
- Available on: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch (DRW only), and Platinum (DRW only)
- Includes: extra heavy-service front springs (4x2), upgraded suspension components for slide-in camper use
- Not available with: Tremor Off-Road Package, 20" wheels, or Pickup Box Delete
Why the Camper Package matters: slide-in truck campers can weigh 2,000-4,000+ lbs loaded, sitting directly on the truck bed and overhanging the cab area. Standard suspension can handle the weight within payload rating but ride quality and stability suffer. The Camper Package’s upgraded front springs handle the front-end load from the cabover portion of the camper.
For slide-in camper buyers: Camper Package is worth it. F-350 DRW with Camper Package is the strongest configuration for larger slide-in campers approaching the upper end of camper weight ranges.
Pickup Box Delete for service body upfit
For commercial and upfitter operations that will install a service body, dump body, utility body, flatbed, or other custom rear configuration in place of the standard pickup box, the Pickup Box Delete option ships the truck without the standard bed installed.
Pickup Box Delete (option 66D):
- Available on most retail trims with appropriate restrictions
- Saves cost (and weight) of the standard pickup box that would be removed anyway
- Truck arrives ready for upfitter body installation
- Compatible with most commercial body builders (Reading, Knapheide, Stahl, Maranda, etc.)
- Heavy-Service Package for Pickup Box Delete (option 63R) available for buyers needing additional cargo capacity in the upfit configuration
Common Pickup Box Delete upfits:
- Service bodies — plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, and other trades
- Dump bodies — excavation, landscaping, snow removal, municipal use
- Flatbeds — ag work, equipment hauling, materials delivery
- Utility bodies — with toolboxes integrated into sides, common for utility companies and tradesmen
- Tow bodies — for tow truck operations
- Stake beds and rack bodies — landscaping, delivery, and commercial use
For buyers ordering a body-upfit truck: talk to your body builder about specific configurations before placing the Ford order. Wheelbase choice (148" or 160"), cab style, and engine all affect what bodies will fit and how they perform. We can coordinate with body builders to make sure the truck arrives ready for the specific upfit.

For professional operators putting on serious mileage and using the truck hard, the Platinum Plus interior and equipment genuinely pay back in driver comfort over thousands of hours of seat time.
Order checklist for work-truck buyers
If you’re spec’ing a Super Duty for work, walk through these decisions in order:
1. What’s your max tow weight? Determines F-250 vs F-350 SRW vs F-350 DRW vs F-450. (See our trim levels guide and engine specs.)
2. What’s your max payload? If you’re consistently loaded above 4,200 lbs in the truck (including upfit, passengers, and cargo), F-350 SRW or DRW with Heavy-Duty Payload Package becomes the right answer.
3. Gas or diesel? Use our engines guide framework. For most work-truck buyers running over 20,000 miles/year or towing over 12,000 lbs regularly, diesel pays back.
4. 4x2 or 4x4? For most central Minnesota work-truck buyers, 4x4 is the right answer. Required for Snowplow Prep Package and Tremor.
5. Cab and bed configuration? Regular Cab for true work-truck use with maximum bed. SuperCab (148" WB) for occasional rear passenger use. Crew Cab for daily multi-passenger use. Bed length: 6.75′ for easier maneuvering, 8′ for fifth-wheel hitch and serious cargo capacity.
6. Pickup Box Delete? Yes if installing a service body, dump body, or other commercial upfit. No if running a standard pickup configuration.
7. Snowplow Prep Package? Yes if you’re installing a snowplow, even for personal use. Not available with Tremor.
8. Pro Power Onboard configuration? 400W (standard XLT+) for most contractor use. 2 kW (Platinum Plus Package) for heavy daily use of corded tools or worksite equipment.
9. Upfitter switches? Standard configuration handles single-accessory installs (single plow, single piece of aftermarket equipment). Six upfitter switches (Platinum Plus Package) for multiple-accessory installs.
10. PTO? If you need continuous mechanical drive for implements, augers, or hydraulic systems, order PTO provisions with diesel engine.
11. Trim level? Match comfort to time-in-seat. XL for fleet/strict work-only use. XLT for most personal-use work trucks. Lariat for daily-driver work trucks where comfort matters. King Ranch or Platinum for buyers who want premium luxury along with work capability.
12. Towing accessories? Determine if you need 5th-wheel hitch prep, gooseneck hitch prep, both, or neither. Pro Trailer Backup Assist available across the line. Lariat Premium Package includes Pro Trailer features.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 400W of Pro Power Onboard enough for jobsite work?
For smaller jobsite tools — drills, smaller saws, lights, phone chargers — 400W is plenty. For larger corded power tools (circular saws, miter saws, table saws) used simultaneously with air compressors and work lights, 400W gets stretched. If you regularly run multiple corded tools simultaneously, the 2 kW Pro Power Onboard (Platinum Plus Package) is the right answer. For occasional heavy tool use, 400W works — just plan to run high-draw tools one at a time rather than simultaneously.
Can the Super Duty back up a generator for home power outages?
With 2 kW Pro Power Onboard, yes — comparable to a 2,000-watt portable generator for home backup. Through a proper transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician, the truck can power critical home circuits (refrigerator, freezer, lights, charging devices) during power outages. The truck’s fuel tank provides substantial runtime (a 48-gallon tank running occasionally provides days of backup power). Consult a licensed electrician for proper home transfer switch installation — do not attempt to backfeed power through standard outlets.
Why can’t I get Snowplow Prep with Tremor Off-Road Package?
The Tremor Off-Road Package’s suspension geometry, ride-height increase, and 35-inch tires are tuned around off-road performance. The computer-selected snowplow springs in the Snowplow Prep Package are tuned around constant front-end load from a plow. The two suspension tunes are incompatible. For buyers wanting both off-road capability and snowplow capability, the FX4 Off-Road Package is the alternative — it includes off-road shocks and skid plates AND is compatible with Snowplow Prep Package.
Do I need PTO if I already have Pro Power Onboard?
Depends on the equipment. Pro Power Onboard delivers electrical power; PTO delivers mechanical power directly from the drivetrain. Some equipment runs on electrical power (most corded tools, lights, fans). Other equipment needs continuous mechanical drive at specific torque levels (hydraulic dump bodies, larger augers, PTO-driven generators, hydraulic-driven service equipment). If your equipment is PTO-designed, you need PTO. If it’s electrical, Pro Power Onboard works. Many work-truck buyers have both for different equipment.
Can I order an F-450 for retail use?
Yes — we sell F-450 pickups to retail buyers regularly. F-450 retail is DRW only and diesel only (6.7L Power Stroke standard, 6.7L HO Power Stroke optional). It’s the maximum-capability consumer pickup in the segment — up to 40,000 lbs gooseneck towing with the High-Capacity Gooseneck Tow Package. Common buyer profiles: professional horse trailer haulers, commercial gooseneck operators, large fifth-wheel toy hauler enthusiasts, and ag operations running multiple heavy trailers. The F-450 is more truck than most personal-use buyers need, but for serious commercial and high-end recreational towing, it’s the answer.
How long does it take to factory-order a Super Duty?
Typical factory-order timelines for the 2026 Super Duty are running approximately 8-16 weeks from order placement to delivery, but this varies based on production schedules, model mix, and specific configurations. If we don’t have your exact configuration on the lot, we can also pull from another dealer at no extra charge — often faster than factory order. Stop by or call us and we’ll check current production timelines and what’s available in the dealer network. For commercial buyers with specific deadlines, plan ahead and get the order in early.
Will Jay Malone Ford coordinate with my upfitter?
Yes. We work with regional body builders regularly — service body installs, dump body installs, flatbed conversions, snow plow installations. If you have a preferred upfitter, tell us and we’ll coordinate to make sure the truck arrives spec’d correctly for the upfit (right wheelbase, right options, right packages). If you need a recommendation, we can connect you with body builders we’ve worked with successfully.
