The Ford Maverick® is the compact pickup that broke the mold — a true truck that fits in your garage, sips fuel with its hybrid powertrain, and still tows, hauls, and handles Minnesota winters like a real Ford. Whether you’re a first-time truck buyer, a homeowner who needs weekend utility, or a commuter who refuses to give up practicality, the Maverick earns its spot in your driveway.

What Is the Ford Maverick?

The Maverick is Ford’s compact pickup — smaller than a Ranger, bigger than a crossover, and built on a unibody platform that drives more like an SUV than a traditional truck. It comes exclusively as a four-door SuperCrew® with a 4.5-foot bed, seats five, and slots under nearly every garage door in Hutchinson. The standard 2.5L hybrid powertrain is what put the Maverick on the map: a truck that delivers strong everyday fuel economy without asking you to plug anything in.

For 2026, the lineup expanded to five trims — XL, XLT, Lobo, Lariat, and Tremor® — giving Maverick shoppers everything from a budget-minded hybrid work truck to a 4WD performance-tuned street model to a genuine off-road rig. No other compact truck on the market offers that range.

Who the Maverick Is Built For

We sell Mavericks to a wider mix of buyers than any other truck on our lot. The common thread: people who want truck capability without truck-sized payments, fuel bills, or parking headaches.

  • First-time truck buyers stepping up from a car or small SUV who want something versatile but not overwhelming
  • Commuters driving between Hutchinson and the Twin Cities who want hybrid fuel economy five days a week and truck utility on the weekend
  • Homeowners who need to haul mulch, lumber, lawn equipment, or a dump run without renting a truck
  • Weekend warriors towing small boats, jet skis, utility trailers, or a pair of snowmobiles to the cabin
  • Small business owners looking for a fuel-efficient work truck that won’t burn through profit at the pump
  • Off-road enthusiasts who want real 4WD capability in a compact footprint (Tremor® or Lobo)

Why Maverick Buyers Love Them

Ask any Maverick owner on our lot and the answers rhyme: it does more than they expected, costs less than they feared, and fits their life better than the bigger truck they were originally shopping.

The hybrid story. The standard 2.5L hybrid powertrain with Power-Split Electric CVT gives Maverick shoppers a legitimate fuel-economy advantage over any other truck we sell — no extended-range battery, no charger to install, no range anxiety.

The size story. At roughly 200 inches long, the Maverick fits in compact parking spots, maneuvers through tight farm gates, and doesn’t require a 30-foot driveway to park comfortably.

The bed story. The FLEXBED® storage system turns the 4.5-foot bed into a configurable workspace with tie-downs, dividers, and 12V power — something you won’t find on any other compact pickup.

The price story. Maverick starts in the high-$20,000s, which means real truck capability at a payment most families can live with.

Maverick in Minnesota

Hutchinson winters are no joke. We get snow from November through April, brutal cold snaps, and gravel roads that eat lesser vehicles alive. The Maverick handles it — especially when you spec the right driveline for your use. AWD is available across the core lineup and comes standard on Lariat. Advanced 4WD with a Twin Clutch Rear Drive Unit is standard on Lobo and Tremor®, which is a more capable system than most compact trucks offer. For central MN drivers, the AWD Hybrid strikes a near-perfect balance of winter traction and year-round fuel economy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ford Maverick a real truck?

Yes. It’s a unibody pickup — similar construction to an Explorer or Honda Ridgeline — with a real 4.5-foot bed, tailgate, tie-downs, available 4,000-lb tow rating with the 4K Tow Package, and up to 1,500 lbs of payload. It drives more refined than a body-on-frame truck, but it still does truck work.

Do I have to plug in the hybrid?

No. The Maverick hybrid is a traditional (non-plug-in) hybrid. You fill it with regular gas like any other vehicle. The battery charges itself through regenerative braking and the engine — no charger, no outlet, no plan.

How does Maverick compare to Ford Ranger?

The Ranger is a mid-size, body-on-frame truck with a 5-foot bed, higher tow ratings, and available Raptor performance. The Maverick is a compact, unibody truck with a 4.5-foot bed, hybrid availability, and a lower price point. Most Maverick shoppers don’t need what Ranger offers — but if you regularly tow more than 4,000 lbs or spend serious time off-road, Ranger is the step up.

What is the Maverick Lobo?

Lobo is a performance-oriented Maverick trim with Advanced 4WD, a 7-speed quick-shift transmission, paddle shifters, performance-tuned suspension, and unique 19-inch Turbofan-style wheels. Think of it as the “street sport” Maverick — different mission from the off-road Tremor®, but equally distinctive.

How much can a Maverick tow?

With the available 4K Tow Package, Maverick is rated up to 4,000 lbs — enough for most small boats, utility trailers, and light recreational loads. Without the tow package, the standard hitch is rated at 2,000 lbs. For heavier towing needs, step up to a Ranger or F-150.

Does the Maverick handle Minnesota winters?

Yes — especially in AWD or Advanced 4WD configurations. Hutchinson customers running AWD Mavericks report no issues through the full winter. Pair AWD with a good set of winter tires and you have a truck that handles snow, ice, and cold better than most cars and small SUVs on the road.
