If you own a Ford or Lincoln with SYNC, your vehicle is about to get smarter. Ford is rolling out the next over-the-air software update, known as SU12, beginning June 2026 and continuing through the third quarter. The update brings a range of new features and improvements designed to make your in-vehicle experience better — and it installs automatically, at no cost, while your vehicle is parked. Here's what's coming and what to expect.
ROLLING OUT NOW THROUGH Q3 2026
Ford SYNC Over-The-Air Update 12
Free, automatic, and delivered while you sleep
What's New In SU12
This update isn't a single big feature. It's a collection of meaningful improvements across navigation, entertainment, charging, and connectivity. Some of them will be immediately useful. Some you may not notice until the moment they save you time. Here's the full rundown.
Tesla Supercharger Access For More Ford EVs
This is one of the bigger changes for Ford EV owners. SU12 expands the rollout of compatible Tesla Supercharger access in Connected Navigation to 2021 and 2022 Mustang Mach-E and 2022 F-150 Lightning owners. If you've been driving one of these vehicles and waiting for direct Supercharger integration, this update brings your charging options in line with newer Ford EVs — significantly expanding the public fast-charging network you can use without leaving the SYNC navigation interface.
Video Streaming And Karaoke Apps
For Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with 12-inch SYNC 4 screens, plus Expeditions with the 15-inch screen, SU12 is expanding access to video streaming and karaoke apps directly through the in-vehicle interface. This makes the larger screens more useful during charging stops, drive-in events, tailgates, or simply waiting in a parking lot. The streaming features are designed for use only while the vehicle is parked — the technology is built around safety.
Battery Preconditioning With Apple Maps EV Routing
For Ford EV owners who use Apple CarPlay, SU12 adds battery preconditioning when you're using Apple Maps EV Routing. In plain language: when you set a destination that includes a charging stop, your vehicle's battery automatically prepares itself for fast charging before you arrive — which means significantly shorter charging sessions at the station. It's a small detail with a real-world impact on EV road-trip times.
Improved Charge History Tracking
SU12 improves how your Ford EV tracks and presents your charging history. Useful if you want to monitor your home charging costs, track public-charging expenses for work mileage, or simply understand your charging patterns better over time.
Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Improvements
SU12 includes connectivity improvements for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you've ever had your phone disconnect mid-trip or experienced glitchy handoffs between phone and vehicle, this update is aimed at smoothing those issues out.
ePrivacy Settings Update
When SU12 installs on your vehicle, you'll see a one-time notification on your vehicle's screen prompting you to update your ePrivacy settings. This is a settings refresh related to how Ford handles vehicle data — the notification will walk you through your options and let you decide what you're comfortable with. Take a minute to read through it when it pops up; it's a chance to review how your data is used.
Which Vehicles Get SU12
Software Update 12 will roll out to the following Ford and Lincoln vehicles, beginning June 2026 and continuing through the third quarter:
Eligible Vehicles
- 2021-2022 Ford F-150
- 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
- 2021-2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E
- 2021-2022 Ford Bronco
- 2022-2024 Ford Expedition
- 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator
- 2026 Ford Transit
Note that timing varies by feature and by vehicle. Some features will arrive at the start of the rollout window; others will phase in over the third quarter. Ford typically begins with a smaller test deployment before expanding to broader availability, so don't be concerned if neighbors with the same vehicle as yours receive the update at different times than you do.
What You'll Experience
If you've experienced an over-the-air update on your Ford before, this works the same way. Here's what to expect:
The Update Process
- An in-vehicle notification appears when SU12 is ready to install on your specific vehicle
- You can adjust the time the update installs from the notification or in the Ford or Lincoln app
- The update installs while the vehicle is parked — usually overnight
- You'll receive a notification in the Ford or Lincoln app when the update is complete
- For the ePrivacy update specifically, a separate one-time notification will appear on your vehicle's screen
How To Make Sure You Get Updates Automatically
Ford recommends enabling automatic software updates and setting a recurring schedule. You can do this directly in your vehicle's settings or through the Ford or Lincoln mobile app. Setting it once means future updates install without you having to think about them — just like your phone or laptop.
If you've never used the Ford or Lincoln app, this is also a good moment to download it. The app gives you remote control of your vehicle, vehicle health reports, charging information for EVs, and a clear view of when updates are scheduled or completed.
Questions About The Update?
If you're not sure whether your vehicle is eligible, when your update will arrive, what a notification on your screen means, or whether something installed correctly — just ask us. Our service team handles questions about Ford software updates regularly and we're happy to walk through anything you're unsure about.
Does the SU12 software update cost anything?
No. Over-the-air software updates from Ford and Lincoln are included at no cost. SU12 installs automatically over your vehicle's wireless connection.
When will my vehicle get SU12?
SU12 begins rolling out in June 2026 and continues through the third quarter (July-September). Ford rolls updates out in phases, so timing varies by vehicle model, model year, and even individual vehicle. If you haven't received it by the end of September, contact our service team.
Do I need to bring my vehicle to the dealership for SU12?
No. SU12 is an over-the-air update that installs wirelessly while your vehicle is parked. You don't need to visit the dealership. If you experience any issues after the update installs, we're happy to take a look — call us at (320) 587-4748.
What is the ePrivacy notification I'm seeing on my screen?
As part of SU12, Ford is asking customers to review their ePrivacy settings — the settings related to how your vehicle handles your data. The notification walks you through your options. You can update your preferences directly from the prompt or learn more about how your data is used. If you have questions about what to choose, contact our service team.
My 2021 Mach-E still doesn't have Tesla Supercharger access in navigation. Will SU12 add it?
Yes. SU12 expands the rollout of compatible Tesla Supercharger access in Connected Navigation to 2021 and 2022 Mustang Mach-E owners, as well as 2022 F-150 Lightning owners. Once SU12 installs on your vehicle, you should see Supercharger options appear in your navigation route planning.
What if I don't want the update?
You can adjust the time the update installs from the in-vehicle notification or in the Ford or Lincoln app. While Ford encourages all customers to keep their vehicles updated for safety, security, and feature improvements, you have control over when the update installs.
How do I make sure I get future updates automatically?
Open your vehicle's settings menu or the Ford / Lincoln mobile app and enable automatic software updates. You can also set a recurring schedule so updates always install at a time that works for you. Setting it once means future updates install without further action on your part.
